I am a Christ follower, and I tend to use that phrase more often than Christian, as so many institutes of religion have takes so many turns away from the Bible. I am looking at the life of Jesus through Matthew Mark and John and Luke-and honestly I don't see that Jesus was into religion...HE was into relationship. That is what i have and what I want...and would I die for it? Yes I think I would.

Hi Todd,
I think your first point is weak. "Jesus must be true otherwise the original Christian martyrs would not have died for him", and you use Peter as an example. There are many religious people today willing to die (and Kill) for their cause, yet they have no proof, simply faith. Why couldn't the original Martyrs have been the same? Also, who knows what proof actually was. I'm sure if you go back far enough in time the first time someone saw fire it must have appeared that the groups that knew how to make fire were seen as gods. How do you know something similar didn't happen back a couple of thousand years ago. Maybe there is a medical explanaition to why Jesus was thought to be dead and then majically rose from the dead..who knows.
I do agree with your point that organized religion does do good as well as bad in the world. My point is you don't NEED organized religion to do good. I am all for helping your fellow man, but shouldn't that be more important than whether I go to church every Sunday and pray to a statue?

Todd, I've been 'popping' in and out of your site from time to time, and for the record even though our views are quite different, I applaud you. I do believe that you're a free thinker, and that is a good thing. While I don't subscribe to any religious ideals, I am a very spiritual man. I will continue to 'pop' in on your site, and continue enjoying your writings..... Keep going!
